Laxmi and Varsha had their first rehearsal with YAK YAK for their performance at the Commonwealth Games event in the morning of Laxmi’s birthday.

When they got home they got ready for Laxmi’s pet party. Varsha did face painting. Laxmi and Cosmo were huskies, Varsha was a rainbow lorikeet and Thiango was a unicorn.

We played pin the tail on the husky and the red balloon bird game. We had a dog bone piñata and a husky birthday cake and danced to the Pet Shop Boys.

We have been making more preparations for Laxmi’s Birthday. Laxmi and Varsha made the husky for pin the tail on the husky.

We went to the Mareeba airport and the weather station with the Tablelands Homeschoolers. We loved the little red plane and wanted to go for a ride. It was really hot until it rained in the afternoon.

It rained for a few days and lots of mushrooms have popped up again.

Varsha has started sanding some wood to make a new desk.

We went to Cairns for the Young Creatives session. They are brainstorming ideas for something to go in the Cairns festival parade. They also looked at the exhibitions that are on in the gallery.

We watched the first episode in David Attenborough’s series about the Great Barrier Reef.

I love this list.

33. Take notes.

18. Take risks.

27. Take action, even in small measures.

30. Go for a walk

I think I’ll go for a walk.

Varsha has been doing lots of drawings including on herself!

We have watched a few things on Netflix lately. Beauty and the Beast and a series about renovating really old houses.

Everything is lush and green with so much rain. There are lots of tree frogs living in the house.

We have started preparing for Laxmi’s birthday. She is going to have a pet party and she is going as a husky.

We took John to the creek for a swim on a hot day.

We watched Moana.

We had a thunderstorm and Laxmi was feeling frightened so we read a book about anxiety. She found it really helpful.

Varsha has repainted another Monster High Doll and is starting to redo her hair.

We have also been to Norrie’s and painted the pottery we did last Friday with underglazes.

This week’s eco warriors was about entomophagy – eating insects! Laxmi’s favourite was green ant lollipops. She didn’t like the mealworm chocolate chip cookies…

It’s been hot.

We had a pottery workshop with the homeschoolers. We went down to the creek afterwards. Then a beautiful storm came over and cooled everything off.

Cosi and Thiango came over for the day while Cat and Will went to Cairns. It was nice to go out and draw on the road after the heat went out of the day. Cat and Will brought home dumplings and fortune cookies and we had a Chinese New Year feast.

There is a big flock of black cockies flying around and calling out from the tree tops.

It has been really foggy in the morning and really hot during the day. There are lots of cool bugs out at the moment like these beautiful shiny green ones. Laxmi took a giant moth to eco warriors today. Dr Clare said it is a wood moth.

Laxmi and Dakoda and Cosmo have been playing Creativerse together on the computer.

It was John”s birthday on Sunday. We had a Gospel music barbecue for his party. We also fired the kiln for the first time. The next day it had cooled down enough to take the pottery out.

Laxmi and Cosmo are interested in Taekwondo. We went to watch a class in Mareeba. That same day Varsha went with Thiango to Ozharvest in Cairns with the Tablelands Homeschoolers. They collect and distribute Food to people who need it.

The next day we had our first music session at the hall with the local homeschoolers. Varsha is playing the piano and there is a band and singing. Laxmi brought her chess set too.
