Croissants!

Varsha has finished lining the jacket of the doll’s outfit.

John made spelt croissants for our new friends who came over for breakfast. Bruno is a Frenchman so we all thought John was very brave. The croissants were soo delicious.

Varsha and Laxmi and I went down to Cairns to see Cosmo and Thiango in a circus show they have been training for for months. The sky was beautiful that night and the venue was lovely under a giant tree.
The little orchids are blooming on Babbler Hill.
Cat and Will and Cosi and Thiango came over for a barbecue dinner before they went away. The sky was beautiful again.
Laxmi and Cosmo made a shop in the tree house.

Can you feel the love tonight?

Varsha and Laxmi have been going to music lessons for a while now. Just recently it seems like they have got to a point where they are really enjoying it. They are playing quite a lot at home and Varsha just showed Laxmi how to play this bit that she has been doing in her session. Varsha has decided to learn how to read musical notation. It’s so lovely that they have come to this out of their own enthusiasm.

Coconut, pandan and banana

Varsha scraped the flesh out of a coconut while Kiko had fun with the husk.

We made pandan pancakes with pandan leaves from the garden and coconut and palm sugar filling. Varsha loved them in Darwin when she was a baby and she still loves them.

Laxmi has been doing lots of drawing and taking photos with the rainbow she gets on her desk in the afternoon.

This is crocheted banana fibre from our garden.

Sizing paper and thinking about cooking

Varsha wants to make their own sketchbooks. We have gathered everything together to make the paper and looked at different kinds of paper I had made. I gave Varsha a book I made to draw in. The paper is very absorbent so we are experimenting with sizing the paper with rice flour and gelatin. The gelatin is working better than the rice. We are putting another coat on to see what happens.

Varsha has been making toasted wraps and we have been thinking about why toasting makes the wrap so much more delicious. We looked up the Maillard reaction which explains the many chemical changes that happen when you toast your wrap!

Some sunshine in the garden

It’s been cold at night and sunny in the day.
Laxmi took the cuttlefish she collected at the beach around to all the Greater Bowerbird bowers we know and left them as gifts.
Laxmi decided on an Audrey Hepburn short haircut.
Julian’s gave us a beautiful tatsoi from her garden when we went to visit her.

Laxmi has been running laps in the garden and working on sit ups and push ups!

Beach camp

It was windy and rainy at the homeschoolers’ Beach camp this last weekend. We had fun anyway!

Treasure on the beach
